3 Ways I use my hand painted silk fabrics

My favourite thing to do with my hand painted silk fabrics is to make bags with them. I make bags and have an accessories brand ( ETILOI ) so I guess it makes sense!

I rarely use the silk fabric on its own though. I usually pair it with either Ankara fabric, Damask or Aso One fabric for a nice contrast in texture and design.

Below are a few clutch bags I made from some of my free hand painted silks

Another thing I love to do is to make wall decor. I have the silk mounted and framed and then sold as wall panels. Folk seem to like them a lot, so I guess I need to do some more and take better pictures too.

The third thing I do with my hand painted silk fabric is to make throw pillows or boudoir pillows as some call them. Folks like those because I always use free hand designs on them so there are no two pieces exactly the same. People always want exclusive stuff, No?

Unfortunately I have no pictures but promise to start to do better with my picture taking.

Adventures in Silk Painting

I love painting on silk. The way the colour flows on the fabric and the vibrant colours are so delicious.

The image above is of a scarf I painted using pre-designed silk from Artys. I love using the pre printed scarfs but they do take its toll on my neck and back. But, they are so so beautiful!

I prefer using iron fixing silk paints for my work as opposed to steam fixed dyes. I find the iron fix paints to be easier to work with while steaming the silk dyes can be such a hassle.

Steam fix dyes are always a gamble for me to be honest, although the vibrancy of the colours are unparalleled. I have stopped putting myself through the aggravation though and now stick with iron fix paints.

I have a selection of some of my old work below. Unfortunately I rarely took pictures of my silk and the pictures I do have are not very nice.

What kind of paints do you prefer – Steam fix dyes or Iron fix paints? I intend to get some empty marker pen containers and fill them with iron fix paints. I will get an assortment with different nibs and see what magic will happen on my silk fabrics!
